Course Details
First opening in 1900, Scottish professional David Smith Hunter designed a beautiful 9-hole course that became Westfield Golf Club. In 1921, a group of prominent black investors, Progressive Realty Company, purchased the land and opened Shady Rest Country Club; the First Black Owned Country Club in America! The country club was home to John Matthew Shippen Jr., the first American-born African American Golf Professional, and has hosted Jazz and Blues Legends like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.
The 9-hole course at the Shady Rest Country Club features 2,247 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par 33. The course rating is 31.7, with a slope rating of 114 from the blue tees. The property includes the historic Shady Rest Clubhouse, a Pro Shop (located inside the building to the left of Shady Rest Clubhouse), and a Pavilion.
Next to the 9-hole course is an 18-hole miniature golf course that boasts a picturesque waterfall, wandering streams, and stepping ponds.

Golf Cart Policy
Golf carts are on a first-come, first-serve basis; at this time, due to demand, we cannot guarantee single-rider carts. Threesome and foursome tee-time reservations shall be provided with a maximum of two carts per reservation. Twosome tee-time reservations shall be limited to one cart per reservation. If requested, single golfers added to existing reservations shall be offered individual golf carts. Additionally, if a customer requests a single-rider cart, we can provide it, and they will be charged for both seats at an additional cost. Golf carts are required to be returned 15 minutes before sunset.

Mini Golf at Shady Rest
Shady Rest Country Club features an 18-hole miniature golf course. The course wanders around streams and stepping ponds with small shrubs and trees accompanying them, with a picturesque waterfall as the centerpiece.

2024 Golf Memberships
Starting March 1, 2024, resident memberships can be purchased/renewed at the Shady Rest Golf Shop with proof of residency, and non-resident memberships can be purchased/renewed online.
